CHAPTER 1

Hi, everyone. I'm Cindy Fletcher. I'm here at North Shore Community College where I am an instructor of surgical technology. And today, I'm going to be showing you how to set up for a cystoscopy.

CHAPTER 2

So my first order of business is I'm gonna get my second pair of gloves. Thank you. And put my second pair of gloves on. Give me an added layer of protection.

CHAPTER 3

So first thing I wanna do is I want to get my draping off the field. Okay, so let's get that set up. So I'm gonna be placing my draping in the order that it's used. So that means I'm gonna actually do it backwards. So the last thing to be used is gonna be my cysto sheet. So that's gonna go on the bottom. Then I have my two leggings, so that's gonna go next. Then I'm gonna have my surgeon's gloves, my surgeon's gown. And I wanna give them a towel in case they come in and they need to dry their hands. I'm gonna put it right in my basin so it's out of the way and all ready to go. Give myself some room to work.

CHAPTER 4

So I always like to put down an extra barrier. Just puts an added layer in between the instruments and the back table for protection. There we go. All right. Let me take my stuff. So I have my bowl, which is gonna have my normal saline. So I'm going to take my normal saline sticker, put it on there. Then my two specimen cups. One can be used for a urine specimen. Or if we end up having some contrast on the field, we'll have somewhere to put it. My sponges. Now we don't count these sponges because they don't actually enter the patient's body. So there's no cavity involved. I'm gonna give myself some lubrication on here. There we go. All right. And I'm also gonna label this lubricating jelly. There we go. All right.

CHAPTER 5

So I'm gonna take my instruments. Now there is also an indicator inside the instrument set. So I'm gonna place my instruments on my table. Let me get my camera. Here we go. I'm just gonna hand this off to my circulator. Give me a little more room to work with.

CHAPTER 6

All right. So I have the end to my light cord. I'm gonna get that secured on there, okay, and put the lens on my camera. All right, so those things are ready to go. Okay. Organize my instruments. All right. So this here is irrigation tubing. I'm gonna take the cover off. It can go in my little trash. This piece here goes on the end of the irrigation tubing. I'm gonna put that on. Just like that. Okay? I also like to close these little clamps so that when the circulator puts the pieces into the irrigation bags, it won't run, so the water won't come out. So this is ready to go. So now I'm gonna actually assemble the cystoscope. This is the cystoscope. I'm gonna take a bridge. The bridge goes on first, clicks in. And then you're gonna turn this little knob there. And if you have it on right, you can give it a little tug and it's not gonna go anywhere. All right? So then we're gonna take the obturator. And that's gonna fit on there, and we're gonna turn that as well. So again, it sits on there pretty tightly. And we're gonna take... This is gonna go right over here, just like that. I also wanna make sure that these nozzles, that the levers are up. That indicates that they're closed. Okay? So this is assembled. So you could also attach your light cord, attach your camera. Okay? And this would be ready to go. So when you pull up to the field after you drape, you can hand this off and it's ready for use. So that's how you set that up. You wanna also make sure that you hand off the lube when you hand this off so that they can lube the end in order to introduce it into the urethra of the patient. But that's a pretty simple, easy setup of the cystoscope.
