Why the Log In Requirement?

"My institution is subscribed. Why do our users still have to log in?"

Once an institution is subscribed, the following are used to link users to institutions:

  • Email address
  • IP address
  • Stated affiliation

By default, users at a subscribing institution must log in to view the content. If they visit from the requisite IP addresses, then they are made aware that there is an active institutional subscription and they only need to log in. To facilitate the login process, JOMI has incorporate social logins (which can be expanded upon request).

The benefits of this approach are as follows:

  • Mobile Devices: upon creating an account, the user intuitively becomes comfortable logging in from a mobile device or a home computer. This increases utility of the resource.
  • Better Analytics: having detailed information about what users are looking for makes it possible for our editorial staff to adjust editorial strategy for maximum impact.
  • Better Reporting: it is important for medical librarians, program directors, and other decision-makers to be able to get granular information about what exact value a resource drives at their institution.

Upon request, the requirement to log in may be turned off. However, it is not recommended. If you have any questions, please reach out to lib@jomi.com anytime.
