Commitment: 30–40 hours/week (Contractor)
Travel: Approx. 1 conference per quarter
Reports to: CEO
We’re looking for a Content Acquisitions Editor to lead the next phase of JOMI’s growth. This is a leadership role for a clinically trained physician who can think strategically about surgical education, build meaningful relationships with surgeons, and execute a smart, efficient outreach strategy to acquire high-value cases for publication.
You’ll work closely with the CEO and the Head of Editorial, oversee a small but growing team, and have broad autonomy to shape outreach priorities, workflows, and team structure as we expand into new specialties.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Content Acquisition
- Identify high-priority and high-impact surgical cases across a range of specialties.
- Conduct cold outreach to surgeons, program directors, and department chairs to introduce JOMI and initiate collaborations.
- Develop and refine outreach strategy based on educational value, procedural demand, and emerging surgical trends.
- Help shape JOMI’s content roadmap as the company expands beyond general surgery and orthopedics.
Leadership & Team Management
- Manage and mentor a small distributed team, including:
- One part-time Content Acquisition Editor (General Surgery focus)
- Undergraduate, medical student, and research fellow support staff.
- Oversee outreach workflows, lead tracking, and follow-up systems.
- Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented team culture.
Collaboration & Operations
- Work closely with JOMI’s production and editorial teams to coordinate case onboarding and publication.
- Track metrics using JOMI’s CRM and Google-based systems; maintain regular progress reports.
- Represent JOMI at surgical or medical education conferences (approx. one per quarter).
- Contribute to long-term content and partnership strategy discussions with the executive team.
Who You Are
- MD or DO with at least 1 year of clinical experience (residency or equivalent).
- Deep understanding of surgical workflow, academic culture, and clinical communication.
- Exceptional communication and follow-up skills — you know how to write compelling, professional outreach messages that get responses.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment.
- Proficient with Google Workspace, Slack, and CRMs (familiarity with Airtable, HubSpot, or similar tools a plus).
- Excited by the pace and creativity of a startup environment and motivated by impact-driven work.
Why JOMI
- Lead the expansion of a globally recognized, mission-driven medical education platform.
- Collaborate with world-class surgeons and institutions.
- High autonomy, flexible remote work, and creative input into company direction.
- Be part of a small, entrepreneurial team that values initiative, experimentation, and innovation.
